Friday Nights (9/11/20)

Friday night is family night in our house. More often than not, it's popcorn and movie night. That's a tradition that took hold when COVID started as a way to support a local business and became something that we love.

Friday night is family night. It's a hard sell to the oldest who wants to be with friends. Of course, we're not nearly as cool as her friends and her sisters annoy her. We're not overly popular with her right now because we aren't willing to budge on family night.

Friday night sometimes goes smoothly. We can all agree on a movie and more times than not, agree that popcorn for dinner is perfectly acceptable. Other nights, family night seems like a lot of work and I can't wait for bedtime.

Friday night for better or worse is our night. One day (likely in 25 years) when our girls are grown, and we're "cool" again, I hope they look back at our Fridays and smile. I hope they smile because even when they didn't want it, we were there. I hope their hearts are filled with happiness for the memories we got to make. I hope they reminisce about how ridiculous mom and dad were for making them spend time at home instead of being out - with a little fondness and gratitude. I hope they have always remember nights like tonight. Nights that even though they weren't perfect, they were us. And even on the not so smooth nights, we still found a way to pile up and laugh together.

I hope nights like our Friday nights are what they carry in their hearts long after we're gone.
